INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE

Unlike a number of other major capital cities, Paris does not yet have a large auditorium, purpose-built for classical music. Though the French capital can boast several orchestras of international standing, it has for long been without a high-quality concert hall for the performance of symphonic works. The Philharmonie de Paris project addresses this need. Its ambition is to reinstate Paris at the forefront of international classical music by providing a prime cultural facility.

Based on an acoustic design adapted to the needs of large orchestras, the hall will enable the performance of symphonic concerts, as well as a range of musical genres, both classical and popular. This unique venue will encourage active listening and create a new relationship between musicians and audience, the latter enveloping a proscenium that has highly flexible ergonomics.

At an age in which we are witnessing radical changes in the way people are listening to music, through new technologies and virtual sound media, this architecture aims to update the ritual aspect of the classical concert by offering a framework capable of stimulating direct contact between a work, the performing musicians and the public.
