The "Directives for the accessibility of Web 1.0 content " are a W3C specification that provides a guideline as to the accessibility of Web sites for the disabled. They have been defined by the Initiative for Web Accessibility of W3C. The specification contains fourteen directives that are general principles for accessible design. Each directive is associated with one or more control points describing how the directive concerned can be applied to a particular characteristic of Web pages.

An appendix to the directives, the "List of control points for Directives for the accessibility of Web content 1.0 " presents the control points by order of priority for easy consultation. Not only do these directives facilitate access for the disabled, they also have the secondary effect of making the pages more accessible for all users - or to users of the different browsers or one of the new personal assistants or voice recognition computers.
