Accessibility

"The power of the Internet is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect. "
Tim Berners-Lee, co-inventor of the World Wide Web, president of W3C

Committing to accessibility

The Philharmonie de Paris has chosen not to create a separate accessible website, in which problem areas could easily have been eliminated, in order to avoid isolating disabled persons with information that might differ from the main site and risk being updated less frequently.

The key elements of the website’s accessibility, published in June 2010 are:

  • Creation of large clickable zones.
  • Indication of clickable zones through textual colour change.
  • Readability of fonts and visuals

Website accessibility tools

  • Internet site map
  • Incorporated text magnifier
  • Incorporated vocal reading tool

Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts allow webpages to be accessed through keyboard combinations. The Philharmonie de Paris has defined the following shortcuts for its website:

  • 0 : Accessibility
  • 1 : Home
  • 2 : Sitemap
  • 3 : Search
  • 4 : Project
  • 5 : Music
  • 6 : Construction
  • 7 : Commitments
  • 8 : Medias

To type the shortcut numbers, it is preferable to use the keys at the top of the keyboard rather than those in the number pad. The key combination varies according to the navigator that is used:

  • Chrome 3 & 4 Windows: Alt + Shift + shortcut
  • FireFox 2 & 3 Windows: Alt + Shift + shortcut
  • Internet Explorer 8 Windows: Alt + Shift + shortcut, then Enter
  • Internet Explorer Windows: Alt + shortcut, then Enter
  • Safari 1.2 Macintosh: Ctrl + shortcut

Improvement goals

The Philharmonie de Paris has set a schedule for the improvement of website accessibility for all users. Following the Interface Handicap guidelines, we are working to improve accessibility in collaboration with user associations. If you have any questions or specific requests, please write to us.

Goals :

  • Improvement of user-friendly tools and materials used by disabled persons for navigation
  • Improvement of content hierarchy in HTML code.
  • Improvement of speech synthesis for reading website information
